Gamble Rodgers Festival

Those of you who showed up from Mr. Charleston, thank you for the visit. Look 'round, let me know what you think.

This is a photo of Pierce Pettis, performing at the Gamble Rodgers Folk Festival 2010.
You just had to be there. Lovely day, but sitting in the late Florida sun can get warm.
Now pat your foot, and then stomp your feet, and then stand up and say "Amen",
hit'll break a sweat.
He did a song called 'Talk Memphis'
ya' gotta listen close now,
'cause the song, hit' twas' written and sung, like how they talk
ya know, down in Memphis.
Made me stop and remember time passed.
Think 'bout the iron railroad bridge over the Mississippi. Stunning.

Looking up the song,
hell, hit turns out that Jesse Winchester
done wrote it and maybe has the best recording,
on youtube or anywhere.

  4. (Not that it has to be one or the other. And I hope you don't think I'm being an uppity English major type -- I sincerely like the way you "sound" on the printed - or should I say, pixillated - page.)

  5. I have a 'thing' for uppity Major English types, or is it the other way 'round. Anyway, They, well, just talk so pretty and dress so fine, and all, and their feet are in just the right placement. And.
I do tend to talk the way i write, did not knew it until I landed in Ann Arbor. Havin' beers and relaxin' and one of my host's friends says, 'He has a southern accent'. Dammanm, all my life, I had not heard tayat.

    Mark Twain, is,
    one on the writers,
    I lean upon, most heavily.

It is always good to hear from a scholar, especially you.

    You,
    may talk Memphis
    to me anytime,
    anyplace,
    anywhere.

  6. (Looks down at feet. Shrugs.)

I was going to mention your Twainish attributes, as a matter of fact. And much to my surprise, a few folks up North have commented on my "southern" accent. WTF? Southern Pennsylvania, maybe...?
