A moment for Champs, dead or alive. 12/20/11

I was over to Mr. Charleston's blog where he spoke of people who passed away this year that had an effect on his life.
He spoke of Joe Frazier, heavyweight champion of the world. Smokin' Joe passed over on September 7, 2011.  Here is the Fight of the Century, a title I think holds and is not hype.  Madison Square Garden March 8, 1971.  Ali's first professional loss, by decision.
I am not a fan of boxing, yet I am a great admirer of Muhammad Ali.
Mr. Frazier earned his title that day.  And He wore it well.

  1. All of the Frazier Ali fights were classics. Then after Foreman in came the clowns and marginalized it all.

  2. Something everyone tends to forget these days of 12-round fights is that those fights were 15-rounds, and not long before that 20+ rounds, and not long before that, until the last man stands.

  3. I saw Ali once in Chicago on a main through-fare. He was stopped at a light (driving a Rolls, himself, btw...!). I looked over and there was by god, Muhammad FUCKING Ali. He looked at me and I pointed at him for my wife to see. He smiled and waved at us. It sent chills up my spin. The only celebrity I've run into that did that.

  4. I don't have anything to contribute to this particular conversation ... just making the blog rounds to say Merry Xmas and thanks for bringing some laughter to my world this year, Punch!

  5. Walkin’ Man…thank you for saying that. I formed the same conclusion as I was writing this post.
Mr. Charleston…that point is missed on most people. Stand and let some one pound on you for another 9 minutes after 36 minutes of pummeling. I would not last the first 3 minutes. I wonder how long Rick Perry would last.
JadedJ…three degrees of separation is all it takes. I would treasure a wave from Ali far more that a wave from the Pope.
Intelli…You are so very welcome for the chuckles. You bring an Intelli, Gents seems to lack most of the time.

Merry Xmas and Happy Chanukah and Happy Christmas and merry New Year and Swingin’ Solstice. (Not that way JJ.) Happy Holidays and to all a good night? Good Greif!
