Back in the 1960's a fellow named Peter Blake wrote a book entitled

'God Own Junkyard' I read it.

Here is a little background on this ol' boy.

I am an architect, educated at THE University of Florida. A Student of Robert C. Broward in Jacksonville, Florida. Bob was just inducted into the Florida Artist Hall of Fame, actually next Monday February 6, 2012.

All those years ago I never would have guessed this would have come to pass. Butte, You had to be there.

Yet never the less Bob was and still is a prime influence upon my understand and appreciation of Architecture. Now again Bob would, or does spell the word with both a capital A and a small a.

but i digress, I was talking about Peter Blake and God's Own...

So here I am driving along on Saturday morning, last, going to the 50th Daytona 24, yeah buddy, R&R and had just arrived on the outskirts of Orlando, north of Mickeys House, south of Daytona. I drift past this little Gem and hit the breaks and wandered around a god forsaken neighborhood thinking a series of right hand turns would bring me back. all the right hand tums were dead end, but I did it. Got back to Sangrala. No, wait a minute that's La Sangra.

What the hell is wrong with this picture? I could feel Bob in my soul.

That is when I knew I was headed for hell.

For the of the Aarchitecture was just too sweet for the architect/photographer to not want to record.

Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)

Afghanistan

and other counter terror operations;

Operation Noble Eagle (ONE), providing enhanced security at military bases;

and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). This estimate assumes that the current CR level continues through the rest of the year and that agencies allocate reductions proportionately.

Of this $1.283 trillion total, CRS estimates that

Iraq

will receive about $806 billion (63%),

OEF $444 billion (35%) and enhanced base security about $29 billion (2%),

with about $5 billion that CRS cannot allocate (1/2%).

About 94% of the funds are for DOD, 5% for foreign aid programs and diplomatic operations,

and 1% for medical care for veterans.

He spoke of Joe Frazier, heavyweight champion of the world. Smokin' Joe passed over on September 7, 2011. Here is the Fight of the Century, a title I think holds and is not hype. Madison Square Garden March 8, 1971. Ali's first professional loss, by decision.
I am not a fan of boxing, yet I am a great admirer of Muhammad Ali.
Mr. Frazier earned his title that day. And He wore it well.

Can’t speak about your sense of fashion but I would suggest if you do not dress like the folks in these posts; well you more than likely have a strong sense of fashion, with a very small appetite for fashion risk. As a footnote, I believe it was fashion risk that landed Mr. Charleston in Chattahoochee to begin with.

Yes, well, eight hours plus have gone by and I have concluded that there are not enough adjectives in the English Language to cover what I am seeing here. It DOES occur to me that not too far up the road (120 mi or so?) from Live Oak on U.S. 90 (that is approximately where this space trip was, wasn't it?) is the institution known as Chattahoochee. Possibly there was a breakout that day, and they all headed East? On the other hand, the Wal Mart theory still holds up well in my mind.

I haven’t thought of Chattahoochee in years. That was a fine name for a rubber room. Much better than ‘the Glens’ which sounds like a tent revival singing group. I would say the budget cuts that Regan put in place coincides with the rise of Wal-Martians. They had to go some place.

BTW, Chattahoochee, your first time in, isn’t that where you meet Mr. Charleston?

Harlequin, great to see your comments. Yes it is a beautiful instrument, and he does throw it around. I have more photos of him climbing that rigging and playing from about ½ ways up. I thought the ladies look very resilient. My guess is more than one or two of them are there with their daughters on some mother daughter outing. All in all a great show.

Thanks walking man, I was ‘bout to get scart of being ‘lone in blog swamp with no one but JJ to talk to. (not that it is a bad thing) I never thought of it that way but looking at the photo selection I can see your point. I really wished I’d have photographed a few of the ‘tour busses’ the ones like Willie Nelson rides in. A bunch of ‘em. I saw one RV leaving on Sunday morning, (the best day in my guide’s opinion) with a tour bus towing a Jeep Renegade. I knew I should have grabbed a shot but it was too early and I was cold and the fire and well I didn’t. I may have a shot of the cute cabins you can rent and the food was all for sale. No soup kitchens at this occupied site.

I was gonna post this yesterday 11/1/11 but well you know how that all goes, but the date was just too cool for school. So here I am handing in my paper late.

Anyway in the last 3 weeks I have been makin' photographs to beat the band. I have taken over 4300 exposures. Daz Right 43 hundred Plus. If that were film the cost would be approx. 4300X30 more or less you run the numbers. (Cost of film plus processing) That's in dollars U$$$$S pal. No wonder Kodak is closing the shop. So on and so forth, but, but, Big George Eastman had a good run and his granddaughter, greatgranddaughter? Linda Got to marry Paul Beatle. Not a bad gift to the world. So here is the deal: with my kind of volume, coupled with Ansel's admonition that a photographer makes about 10 good photographs a year. I should be in line for 10 good photos this year, just in back of the blind hogs. (chuckle) Let's see.

My plan, if it works out is to just post images for the next few or so updates with out commentary, unless the spirit so moves.

Mr. Charleston, and Mr. JJ and the people they encourage will comment (I hope) and if not well that is ok too.

And I am learning to be patient and living without positive feedback.

My dear Friend, (not a corporation) has offered up another platter, that may contain perhaps the head of John the Baptist, but just like Salome I rose, no pun, to the occasion.

The Campus of Florida Southern College is a still point in my turning universe and will remain so.

As I walked around the grounds with Mr. Charleston, he shared with me that this was his first visit to Florida Southern. I said oh.

I was in a state of grace, no other way to ‘splane it. I am student of Wright and studied under a master of Mr. Wright. As I sat in the chapels I came to a fuller understanding of my Mentor Mr. Robert Charles Broward and his love and appreciation of Frank Lloyd Wright.

These were quiet moments, alone. I recommend this to anyone. If you find yourself alone in one of these chapels, sit, be still and know that God will visit.

We spent the day in Lakeland, Florida visiting the Mirror Lake Classic Car and Boat Show. Vintage Cars and Boats around and on the Lake, with late model cars up the road a piece, in downtown Lakeland. When we go to shows like this it is understood when we get out of the car and begin to look around that it is everyman for himself. Phone contact 'round lunch time or closing. Other than that it is always enjoyable to compare notes over dinner, later. We are usually please with how close we come to honing in on the same cars and attendees. On occasion I'll see something he did not and of course he sees something that I wish I had seen. So here is my approximation of what he saw.

Paint Creek, Tex. — In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.
“Niggerhead,” it read.
Ranchers who once grazed cattle on the 1,070-acre parcel on the Clear Fork of the Brazos River called it by that name well before Perry and his father, Ray, began hunting there in the early 1980s. There is no definitive account of when the rock first appeared on the property. In an earlier time, the name on the rock was often given to mountains and creeks and rock outcroppings across the country. Over the years, civil rights groups and government agencies have had some success changing those and other racially offensive names that dotted the nation’s maps.
But the name of this particular parcel did not change for years after it became associated with Rick Perry, first as a private citizen, then as a state official and finally as Texas governor. Some locals still call it that. As recently as this summer, the slablike rock — lying flat, the name still faintly visible beneath a coat of white paint — remained by the gated entrance to the camp.
When asked last week, Perry said the word on the rock is an “offensive name that has no place in the modern world.”
But how, when or whether he dealt with it when he was using the property is less clear and adds a dimension to the emerging biography of Perry, who quickly moved into the top tier of Republican presidential candidates when he entered the race in August.
He grew up in a segregated era whose history has defined and complicated the careers of many Southern politicians. Perry has spoken often about how his upbringing in this sparsely populated farming community influenced his conservatism. He has rarely, if ever, discussed what it was like growing up amid segregation in an area where blacks were a tiny fraction of the population.
In his responses to two rounds of detailed, written questions, Perry said his father first leased the property in 1983. Rick Perry said he added his own name to the lease from 1997 to 1998, when he was state agriculture commissioner, and again from 2004 to 2007, when he was governor.
He offered a simple version of how he dealt with the rock, followed by a more elaborate one.
“When my Dad joined the lease in 1983, he took the first opportunity he had to paint over the offensive word on the rock during the 4th of July holiday,” Perry said in his initial response. “It is my understanding that the rock was eventually turned over to further obscure what was originally written on it.”
Perry said that he was not with his father when he painted over the name but that he “agreed with” the decision.
In response to follow-up questions, Perry gave a more detailed account.
“My mother and father went to the lease and painted the rock in either 1983 or 1984,” Perry wrote. “This occurred after I paid a visit to the property with a friend and saw the rock with the offensive word. After my visit I called my folks and mentioned it to them, and they painted it over during their next visit.”

Question about the painting: is that straight photograph of the painting, or did you do some Photoshop work as well?? The black looks like it might have been added in post.
(it is a photograph of a photograph of a painting. I reworked it with Photoshop to have the background black and the heart float. I would put it up larger but right (Wright) now the blogo is not being nice.)

Was the famous voodoo priestess from New Orleans, who lived near what’s now, called the French Quarter.

Marie LaVeau was a hairdresser, which in those days’ hair dressers and barbers did more than just cut hair. Hell, they stitched wounds, lanced boils, delivered babies, pulled teeth and most anything thing that a doctor would do today. But the Biggest thing was preparing potions. To cure or aid certain body functions such as willow bark for headaches. Or the aid in love, the venerable Love Potion #9.
